On Friday, 02/17/12, Circuit Judge Ronald Ficarrotta ruled that convicted cop killer Carlos Bello was faking mental illness and that he is now competent for a sentencing hearing. In 1987 Bello was convicted for killing Tampa Police Detective Gerald A. Rauft on Friday, 07/24/81 (30 years ago). Originally sentenced to death, Bello’s sentence was overturned by the Florida Supreme Court. He has avoided the death penalty ever since due to competency issues.
