On 07/24/81 Carlos Bello shot and killed Tampa Police Detective Gerald Rauft. Bello also shot Tampa Police Detective Robert Ulriksen who survived. In 1987 Bello was convicted and condemned to death, but his sentence was overturned by the Florida Supreme Court. Ever since (until yesterday) Bello has not been re-sentenced due to competency issues. Finally, on 05/02/12, he was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
