In January of 2010 I was asked to disseminate the following to the troops by A/Chief John Bennett:
Security at the Hillsborough County Courthouse is now being run by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. As a result, there are some new procedures in place that sworn TPD officers should be aware of.
- The West – Southwest entrance of the courthouse is now dedicated for law enforcement personnel
- Even if you are in uniform, you MUST have your department identification with you at all times
- If you are off-duty (on a personal matter) and armed, you will be required to store your firearm in a locker
Since that time, I have become aware that any evidence you bring with you might be electronically scanned before you are allowed to bring it into court. So, please allow for some extra time.
